Gaming and Virtual Worlds
Since i don’t have a computer at home I couldn’t do the first question. The only things I know about virtual worlds is what have seen and heard discussed on The Agenda with Steve Paikin. The first time was with Mac students discussing their virtaul world setup. Being anyone on campus can join and create an identity. They find it relaxing and some enjoy role playing. Others say that people become obsess and forget to work on their studies and stop socializing with the students in real life. The other time it was a woman who makes up educational virtual worlds that students in schools can interact with anyone all over the world. She created the greening of the planet and anyone can go into this virtual world and help come with ideas for making our planet green. To me this is wonderful because we need to do this and it means the students can get information they may not beable to find in a book on in the internet. They are meeting with people in other parts of the world and learning about their problems. The only thing I worry about in the virtual world is that if people are not careful they may end up in trouble. Just like chat rooms there could be a dark side to virtual rooms.
I did the second question on gaming because I could do some of the free 0nline ones at work. I tried card games, jigsaw, chictionary, mahjong match and a series of unfortunate events. The card games I perfer actual cards because I didn’t feel comfortable looking at the screen and moving the mouse hurt my wrists. The other games where more interesting because there was skill in eye/hand co-ordination. They had time limits and they made you really think. Games in a library setting well it amuses them and at the same time can teach them new words, counting and matching different symbols. They will learn to interact with the computer with more ease and therefore when they need to look up information on projects they will beable to do so on their own.

I put something in coments that is wrong. new click on folder new folder box comes up delet and type in folder name enter then search docs click on document (casual staff) drag to folder with its name on it.
ONLINE APPLICATIONS AND PRODUCTIVITY TOOLS
I thought about this last night and I think all the things we’ve learned so far this is the best and for me the most useful. It’s really like a conference call on the phone when everybody on a team can get together and discuss a project. Only were typing the message so we see the answers we need right away. If we sent an e-mail with an attachment we would have to wait for a response which could take days. A lot of branches share computers plus staff can’t get together because there doing desk shifts. This way you can still work together on a projectand it doesn’t matter where you are. I think these applications will work really well for Red Hill staff.

PODCASTS, VIDEO AND DOWNLOADABLE AUDIO
I went into everything and looked at directories and watched videos. Then subscribed to itunes so I could cut and paste a website podcast into my blog. I did need help because the instructions could have been a little clearer.

Checked out and listened to the following e-audo books. Speak by Laurie Anderson and Out of Time by Carol Lynn Thomas.
Introduction to E-Books and E-Audio Books
The instruction were very good, but I had problems because I couldn’t first get a proper name for my account that they would except. Then by the time I kept trying to get a title to checkout they were taken. So after 5 different title I finally found out that I could checkout.
Electronic Database Services at HPL
I did a alert in EBSCO and got a RSS for weather and then I got Gale to e-mail me regarding this.
Social Networking
Went to facebook and added chocolate fantasy application at 12:17 pm. today. Also searched and found Kathy Upson profile. I also visited 2.o social network and created my account. Uploaded a photo and added two friends.
